What is a Family Justice Center?
A family justice center is the bringing together of a multi-agency network, under one roof, dedicated to providing coordinated services to victims of domestic violence and their children. This model has proven successful across the country and has been designated as a best-practice model for domestic violence intervention and prevention by the U.S. Department of Justice. The Challenge
Whether a person is certain that they are experiencing domestic abuse, dating abuse, or sexual assault or if they are just beginning to question their experiences, they are often forced to navigate complex system to receive critical services. Going from one place to the next in order to receive assistance can be overwhelming, particularly for people who don’t have access to transportation. Unfortunately, this process causes many people to lose hope and return to their abusive situations.
The Response
The Morris Family Justice Center is JBWS’ first public facing location where anyone can walk-in and be connected to services immediately. Through a collaboration with partner agencies, people experiencing victimization receive services in ONE location. They are no longer forced to bounce from one location to the next in hopes of receiving assistance. The MFJC provides comprehensive, coordinated services to protect and restore their lives as well as those of their family.
